Yes, the Fältovn is suitable as a camping stove in a tent, but safety always comes first.
The Fältovn is a compact and portable wood stove, designed for outdoor use – robust, efficient, and easy to transport. Due to its size and weight, it is ideal as a camping stove, but using it in a tent requires extra attention and preparation.
What should you consider when using the Fältovn in a tent?
Here are the most important measures:
1. Use only in well-ventilated tents made of canvas
The Fältovn produces smoke and carbon monoxide during combustion. Use the stove only in a tent with adequate ventilation, such as a canvas tent or tipi suitable for stoves. Tents with integrated chimney openings are strongly recommended.
2. Always use a chimney
When you want to use the Fältovn in the tent, always connect it to a good double-walled chimney, which exits through a heat-resistant conduit on the roof of the tent. This prevents smoke buildup and ensures safe exhaust of combustion gases.
3. Use a spark arrester
Optionally place a spark arrester on top of the chimney. This prevents sparks from exiting the pipe that could damage the tent fabric or even cause fire. However, the Fältovn is mounted in such a way that the chance of sparks exiting the pipe is minimal, especially when using the right firewood. We currently do not have a spark arrester in our product range. Always look for a good quality spark arrester so that it lasts as long as the Fältovn.
4. Ensure a heat-resistant and stable base
Place the stove on a non-flammable and stable surface, such as a metal or ceramic plate. It's also possible to use paving stones or wooden blocks. This protects the tent floor and prevents fire risk. Another practical base is a fire blanket, which doesn't take up much space. But also ensure that you have an extra one on hand just in case.
5. Never leave the stove unattended
Never leave the Fältovn lit without supervision, especially when you are going to sleep. Completely extinguish the fire and let the stove cool down properly before leaving the tent or going to sleep.
6. Use only dry, untreated wood
Burn only dry, untreated firewood of suitable length (max. 40 cm for the Fältovn). Avoid painted wood, particle board, or wet wood – these create a lot of smoke and pollution.

The Fältovn is an excellent choice as a camping wood stove and can be safely used in a tent, provided you take the right safety precautions. Leenders designs its products with care, but it is the user who is responsible for correct application.
